The Grüneburgpark is an enormous park in the Westend district of Frankfurt, whose name derives from the "Green castle," which stood on the site in the 14th century. The Grüneburgpark was a very popular destination for many decades, in the former Frankfurt military community. The Grüneburgpark was right next to the now closed Frankfurt American High School (closed in 1995), and of course, right next to the now deactivated, legendary, Abrams building -- which was a top military complex & USAREUR headquarters for the US military's commanding officers....

The Grüneburgpark is an enormous park in the Westend district of Frankfurt, whose name derives from the "Green castle," which stood on the site in the 14th century. The Grüneburgpark was a very popular destination for many decades, in the former Frankfurt military community. Just about everyday that wasn't cold or rainy, you would see many US service members, dependents, and US civilians walking through the park, playing in the park, or just plain ol' hanging-out in this really inviting and comfortable location. The Grüneburgpark was right next to the now closed Frankfurt American High School (closed in 1995), and of course, right next to the now deactivated, legendary, Abrams building -- which was a top military complex & USAREUR headquarters for the US military's commanding officers. * Links (click-on, or copy and paste the link into your browser's address bar.) * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grüneburgpark * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_American_High_School * www.philipp-holzmann-schule.de * Video's music by: G. Arriving at Frankfurt International Airport we faced a bit of dilemma. With close to eight hours to kill before our flight from Frankfurt to Brisbane via Abu Dhabi and Singapore, we had to decide between hanging out at the airport and getting online work done or going into the city to for some quick one day whirlwind tour of the city. Frankfurt, known locally as Frankfurt am Main, is the business and financial centre of Germany; however, I hadn't heard of many people visiting this city as opposed to using it as a mere transportation hub to get to more popular tourists destinations such as Berlin, Heidelberg or Hamburg. With very few preconceived exceptions we immediately started to be won over by the charm of the city center as we ventured past the futuristic avant-garde skyscrapers to Römer square. We couldn't help but notice the contrast of wealthy businessmen scurrying about in relation to relaxed hipster hangouts along the River Main. Getting outside of the financial hub of the city allowed us to experience a quieter pace of life where many well maintained older buildings displaced futuristic modern ones. One of our favorite experiences was visiting many of the green escapes where the hustle and bustle gave way to ponds, nature trails and geese. Some of the top highlights of our afternoon stroll included visiting Römer square, various museums, the River Main, Römerberg, Alte Nikolaikirche, Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral, Römerplatz and Hauptwache. Overall, it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon as opposed to being cooped up in the airport waiting hours on end for our flight. This is a bit of a surprise. We have an eight hour wait for a flight in Frankfurt, so instead of just hanging around in the airport, which was our original plan, we decided to drop our bags off and come into the city. That pretty much wraps up our little visit to Frankfurt. We spent maybe three or four hours just walking around and it was really nice to just see the city without much of an agenda. I came here with quite low expectations to be perfectly honest. I had heard more or less this is just a financial hub but it ended up being quite charming here in Frankfurt and I'm definitely going to miss Germany. I've had a wonderful time traveling around the country. This is part of our Travel in Germany series. We're making a series of videos showcasing German culture, German arts, German foods, German religion and German people. A very serious and quick snowstorm hit Frankfurt a couple of days ago, which had the city and outline areas in a disarray. Within about 4 to 5 hours only, Frankfurt was pummeled by 15 inches of snow! It was amazing and left me realizing that I haven't seen a snowstorm like this in Frankfurt since a loooong time. Yeah, this Winter in Germany has been very dominate and unusual considering the past 12 years. Nevertheless, Spring is this month and only a few weeks away on March 20... So, Old Man Winter, you better get it in while you can, cause your days are shortly numbered! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_American_High_School

Captured: May 2, 2013 656-feet, is equivalent to 200-meters...and though in the video the elevator shows us reaching 190-meters, or 625-feet, after getting off of the elevator there was a short flight of stairs to climb as to reach the observatory platform, which is at 656-feet, 200-meters. The wind at this height was blowing hard, so please excuse the camera shaking every now and again. The tower has five underground floors and two public viewing platforms. It is the only skyscraper in Frankfurt with a public viewing observatory. It is the 4th tallest building in Frankfurt and the 4th tallest in Germany, tied with Tower 185. This structure was built between 1996 and 1999, and serves as headquarters for Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba). Other tenants are the German Offices of Merrill Lynch and Standard & Poor's and a television studio of the Hessischer Rundfunk. The first tenants moved in on 5 November 1999, and the official inauguration was 28 January 2000. During weather reports by the television station, the weather reporter stands on the top of the building. The first link below is outstanding and presents a HD interactive panoramic view of Frankfurt City, from the Main Tower. A must see! http://www.hr-online.de/website/specials/skyline/#80947&key=standard_document_48458265 http://www.maintower.de/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Tower

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Frankfurt This old imperial city on the River Main - hence its full name, Frankfurt am Main - is, by virtue of its central situation, the most important commercial and economic center on mainland Europe. The city's skyline, dominated by the great cluster of high-rise buildings in the banking quarter, has a distinct North American flavor, earning Frankfurt the nicknames "Mainhattan" and "Chicago on the Main." Considered a global city - it frequently ranks in the top ten best cities in which to live and do business - Frankfurt has also long been an important center for cultural and tourism activities, its huge trade fair complex, Messe Frankfurt, hosting important events such as the Frankfurt Book Fair (the world's most important publishing event), along with many fine museums, galleries, and gardens 1. Anne from www.frankfurtonfoot.com shows you the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main. It entails the cloister, a chapel and the archives. It is very close to the Römer (follow Münzgasse to get there) and worth a visit. It houses some astonishing Frescoes from the medieval times.
